José Antonio Reyes dies aged 35 in car crash, Sevilla confirm


The former Arsenal FC striker Jose Antonio Reyes has died in a car crash, his former club confirmed.

Spanish top division side Sevilla announced the 35-year-old striker's death in a tweet just after noon on Saturday, June 1.

It said: "We couldn't be confirming worse news.

"Beloved Sevilla star José Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic collision.

"Rest in peace."

Reyes was Arsenal's record signing when he joined the club for £17 million in 2004.

He started his career with Sevilla and also played for the likes of Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Benfica.

He was most recently on the books of Spanish Segunda Division side Extremadura.

He scored four times in 21 appearances for Spain
